ABOUT SPARE THEORY

Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: 14 October 2026

Spare Theory is an affiliate site. When you buy through links on this site we may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you. This page explains how that works and, crucially, why it does not change what we recommend.

Commissions and affiliate links

Spare Theory participates in the Amazon Associates Program and selected other affiliate and partner programmes. Some links on our guides, reviews, comparisons and tools are affiliate links. If you click one and make a qualifying purchase, we may receive a commission from the retailer. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc., or its affiliates.

A commission is paid by the retailer out of their margin. It never changes the price you pay, and we do not receive any of your personal payment details — the transaction happens entirely between you and the retailer.

Why it doesn't change our recommendations

Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial relationships. In practice that means:

  • We recommend products because they suit a use case, not because they pay the highest commission.
  • We will tell you when a product is a poor fit, has meaningful trade-offs, or when a cheaper option is good enough — even if that costs us a sale.
  • Retailers and brands have no approval rights over our reviews or ratings and cannot pay for placement in our recommendations.

Where we've actually tested a product, our measured results are published alongside the method and conditions (see our field tests). Ratings are never invented — if we haven't verified a figure or a claim, we label it as a manufacturer spec or an estimate, or we leave it out.

How we disclose

Beyond this page, we keep disclosure close to the links themselves: buying sections and product cards note that links may be affiliate links, and our footer carries a standing disclosure. This follows the guidance of advertising and consumer-protection regulators such as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

Cookies from affiliate partners

When you click an Amazon or other partner link, the retailer may set cookies on your browser to attribute the referral and track conversions. That is governed by the retailer's own privacy policy. Our use of cookies — including the ones set with your consent for analytics — is described in our Privacy Policy.
